Stella A. Mavar, 95, Loving, Caring Wife & Mother

Photo of Stella A. Mavar Stella A. Mavar (née Hashier), 95, of Lorain, passed away among family and friends on Friday, February 1, 2019 following a lengthy illness.

Stella was born on May 3, 1923 to Frank J. and Anna A. Hashier in Mammoth, West Moreland County, Pennsylvania. Stella graduated from Redstone High School in Republic Pennsylvania in 1941 and went on to become a Pennsylvania licensed cosmetologist. She married her husband Rudolph Mavar on September 1, 1945 upon his return from World War 2 and moved to Lorain in 1946.

Stella was employed as a seamstress at Lorain Garment and enjoyed sewing her own clothes and doing alterations for family and friends. She also worked as housekeeper at City Bank for 20 years. Stella was a loving, caring wife and mother who enjoyed music, cooking and sewing. She also enjoyed travelling back to Pennsylvania and visiting the places where she grew up. Stella was a great fan of big band, polka and country music her favorite entertainer being Ray Price. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish and the former St. John the Baptist Church, Lorain and loved her extended church family.

Stella is survived by her son Gary R. Mavar of Lorain and many nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Rudolph S. Mavar in 2005; a sister Frances Selemon, and brothers John, Frank, and Joseph Hashier.

Her family will received friends on Wednesday, February 6, from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Closing prayers will be Thursday 10 AM at the funeral home, then Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain (at Grove Avenue). Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
