John Patrick Stevenson, 71, U.S. Air Force Veteran

John was born on August 20, 1948 in Osaka, Japan to his loving parents, James and Grace (nee Butler) Stevenson.

He lived in Youngstown, OH and Poland, OH where he graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1966 before settling in Lorain, OH. John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1967 serving in the Vietnam War and he was honorably discharged in 1972. He married Gretchen (nee Hepler) on June 12, 1971 and they raised their children, Christine and Michael together. John was a bricklayer and etchman for Republic Steel for 30 years. He was a member of AMVETS Post 32 in Elyria. John enjoyed watching football and baseball and he enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years of marriage, Gretchen Stevenson of Lorain; children, Christine and Michael Stevenson both of Lorain; grandson, Joshua Stever of Elyria; brother, James Stevenson of O’Fallon, IL; sister, Mary Grace (Bob) Aurandt of Poland, OH; and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace Stevenson.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the funeral home, Pastor Danny Parsons, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp with military honors by the Amherst Military Veterans Honor Guard.
