Charles A. Doehring, Jr., 85, Passion for Spending Time with Family
Charles A. “Charlie” Doehring, Jr., age 85, of Sheffield Lake, passed away peacefully at the Woods on French Creek on the morning of Wednesday June 17, 2020.
He was born in Glen Burnie, Maryland on December 20, 1934. Following his graduation from high school, Charlie went on to attend marine trade school. While residing in Maryland, he also proudly served his community’s volunteer fire department.
In 1965 he moved to Ohio and estbablished residency in Sheffield Lake. He was employed by the American Shipbuilding Company until the plant’s closing. He subsequently joined the Trace Corporation where he was involved with environmental services. He later joined the Nordson Corporation where he was employed as a quality assurance inspector until the time of his retirement in 1997.
Charlie was very active as a member of the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ and also volunteered extensively with the Sheffield Lake Meals-On-Wheels program.
He possessed a passion for spending time with his family. In addition, he loved the ocean and, when not involved in church and community activities, also enjoyed golf, reading, and following the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
He is survived by son Charles A. “Chuck” Doehring, III (Julie) of Sheffield Lake, and daughters Cindy Kolcun (Ken) of Amherst and Michele Gargalianos (Steve) of Akron. Charlie also leaves six grandsons, and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (nee Lockerman), father Charles A. Doehring, Sr., mother Thelma Doehring (nee Chambers), and sister Vivian Mearman.
Funeral services will be conducted privately in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel with Reverend Charles Brown, pastor of the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
