Melvin L. Axford, 98, U.S. Army Veteran

He was born on May 31, 1922 in Cleveland. He resided in Crossville the past 21 years. He previously lived in Olmsted Township and North Eaton.
Melvin served in the US Army during WWII in the Northern Solomon Islands where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters. He worked as a welder for Loren-Cook Ventilation in Berea before retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service.
Melvin is survived by two daughters, Carol Campanalie (Richard Cook) of North Olmsted, Laverne (Mike) Witherspoon of Bristol, TX; son, Clifford (Karen) Axford of Crossville, TN; 9 Grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 1998, parents William and Helen (nee Barry) Axford, brothers Charles and William Axford Jr. and his special friend Dorothy Gipson.
The family will receive friends 5-8 PM Tuesday July 1, 2020 at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, Due to COVID 19 pandemic, social distancing and face covering will be required. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday in the funeral home and will also be Live streamed on Bogner Family Funeral Home Facebook page. Barney Hartman will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted. VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors.
