James Steadman, 89, Talented Song-Writer and Vocalist

Photo of James Steadman James Steadman, age 89, of Elyria, passed away at O’Niell Healthcare Center in North Ridgeville on the morning of Monday August 24, 2020.

He was born in Cleveland on June 9, 1931 and later graduated from Brookside High School where was he was a standout athlete on the school’s varsity football and baseball teams.

Following his graduation, he completed training as a draftsman and was subsequently employed in that capacity by NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky and, later, at the Electric Boat Company in New London, Connecticut.

Mr. Steadman ultimately returned to Ohio where he established residency in Elyria in 1978. Most recently, he had been employed in the sales industry for a variety of area business entities.

Jim was a talented song-writer and vocalist who performed with a number of Big Bands which toured the north coast. In his free time he enjoyed collecting plates as well as building models with a special interest in airplanes. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Elyria.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years Bernadette (nee Hobor), sons James Steadman (Lisa) of Elyria, Michael Steadman (Robin) of Danbury, Connecticut, and daughter Jane Bossany (Tom) residing in Amery, Wisconsin. He also leaves nine grandchildren, a variety of great grandchildren, and sister Martha Manwaring residing in Zellwood, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Steadman was preceded in death by his brother Robert Steadman and sister Diana Steadman.

Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. (Face masks will be required for attendees and all Covid-19 virus control protocols will be observed.) Reverend Albert Veigas, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
