Raul Velazquez Sr., 69, Enjoyed Martial Arts and Boxing

Photo of Raul Velazquez Sr. Raul Velazquez Sr., 69, of Lorain went home to be with The Lord while surrounded by his children on Monday December 7, 2020.

He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on July 21, 1951. In 1968 he arrived here to Lorain and has been a resident since. In the early to mid-90s he was a radio personality on his programming show “Mundo Musical” on WNZN 89.1 FM: La Onda Cultural Latina. He enjoyed family gatherings, martial arts, boxing, the summer Olympic Games, playing pool and dominoes.

He is survived by his sons Raul Velazquez Jr. of Columbus and Reynaldo Velazquez of Lorain; daughter Jennifer Velazquez of Lorain; bothers Milton Velazquez, Israel Velazquez both of Lorain and Heriberto Velazquez of Ponce, Puerto Rico; sisters Maria Elis Velazquez of Lorain and Gladys Velazquez of California; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Raul was preceded in death by his parents Angelino Velazquez and Gertrudis Madera; brothers Florentino (Sinti), Ramon, Euripides (Piry), Angel, Porfirio (Coqui), Andy and José (Cheo) Velazquez; sister Anna Ramos and a grandson Raul Robert Montagu.

Papi you will always be missed and took a part of us with you when you left. Until we reunite again, Bendicion and we love you.

His family will receive friends Monday, December 14 from 9:30 until time of his funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Rev. Geraldo Aponte, Pastor of Ebenezer Pentecostal Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Masks and social distancing are required.
