Robert Tressel, 93, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Robert Tressel Robert “Bob” Tressel, 93, of Lorain, died Monday December 14, 2020.

He was born March 20, 1927 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.

Bob served in the US Army during World War II as a PFC in the Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 26th Infantry in France and Germany.

As a 75-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #129, Bob took great pride in his work as an electrician on many commercial and residential buildings throughout Lorain County including gas stations, department stores, restaurants, the steel mill and Ford plant.

Bob was a longtime member of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain having attended school there, getting married there, volunteering his time and serving as an usher. He enjoyed his role as the neighborhood “Mr Fix-It”.

He’s survived by his children: David Tressel (Amy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jefferey Tressel (Pam) of Flat Rock, North Carolina, Anthony Tressel (Bobby Jo) of Elgin, Illinois and Barbara Tressel-Bangas (Tony) of Amherst; grandchildren: Jonathon Tressel (Bora) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Steven Tressel (Mandy) of Marion, Iowa and Nicholas Bangas of Lorain; 3 great grandchildren: Ella, Asher & Nolan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Edith Tressel (nee Reed) in 2000, parents Joseph J & Theresa Tressel (nee Pheffer), brothers Lawrence & Raymond Tressel and sisters: Bernice Todarello, Vivian Greenfield and Joan Crawford.

Private family funeral services will be held followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors. The Rev. John Retar, pastor of St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain will preside at the family funeral service. A public memorial mass will be held at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain sometime in 2021 and will be announced.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
