Concetta M. Versace, 78, Enjoyed Walking, Riding Her Bike, and Arranging Flowers

Photo of Concetta M. Versace Concetta M. “Connie” Versace (nee Dongarra), 78, of Lorain, died Sunday December 20, 2020 at University Hospitals St John Medical Center in Westlake.

She was born August 28, 1942 in Lorain and was a lifelong Lorain resident.

Connie graduated from Lorain High School in 1960. She worked as a sales consultant at Value City Furniture in Elyria from 1987 until the store’s closing. Prior to that, Connie worked at Pat Catan’s in Lorain where she made and taught craft classes. She also taught craft classes and ceramics in her home. She had also worked in the credit department at the May Company Department Store in Sheffield Township and as a cashier at Pick-n-Pay.

Connie was an active member of St Peter Parish in Lorain where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and helped with Advent and Lenten programs. She taught 2nd & 5th grade theology classes in the St Peter School CCD program, taught crafts as a mini-course at St Peter School and was a 7th & 8th grade cheerleading instructor.

Connie served on the board of the Lorain YMCA from 1973-1978, danced with the Lorain Follies and enjoyed walking, riding her bike and arranging flowers.

She is survived by her daughter Cris Board, son Rick Versace; grandchildren: Alexa, Adam & Jake Board, great granddaughter Reagan and son-in-law Chuck Board (Michelle Mercurio). She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Richard “Ace” Versace on December 17, 2006, parents Vincenzo & Maria Dongarra (nee Giloimello), brother Louis Dongarra and sisters: Mary Sparks, Grace Sikora, Judy Cantu and Josephine Gonzales.

The family will receive friends Wednesday December 23, 2020 from 9:30 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec pastor, will preside. Attendees are required to wear facial coverings and follow COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
