Helen M. Zahorec, 98, Enjoyed Spending Time with Her Grandchildren

Photo of Helen M. Zahorec Helen M. Zahorec (née Jalowiec), 98, of Lorain, died Sunday December 27, 2020 at the Woods at French Creek in Avon after a battle with COVID-19.

She was born September 19, 1922 in Elyria and had been a lifelong Elyria and Lorain resident.

Helen attended Elyria High School. She worked as an inspector at Couch-Youthy Company in Elyria for many years. She had also been employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for Zahorec Realty Company and as an assistant manager of the former Lincoln Park Ballroom.

Helen was a charter member of St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, a life member of the Altar & Rosary Society and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Circle. She was currently a member of St Peter Parish in Lorain.

She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans and spending time with her children and grandchildren

She is survived by her children: John (Nancy) Zahorec of Lorain, Jolynne (Jim) Jaykel of Lorain, Mary Ellen (Al) Muc of Vermilion and Susan (Charles) Neely of Lorain; grandchildren: Joseph (Lori) Zahorec, Thomas (Nicole) Zahorec, James (Carol) Jaykel, Julianne (David) Nau, Sean Muc, Brandon (Jennifer) Neely and Elisha Neely; 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years former Lorain Mayor Joseph Zahorec in 1984, parents Roman & Mary Jalowiec (née Walkowicz) and brothers: Stanley, Walter, Edward, Henry, Roman & Bernard Jalowiec as well as 3 infant brothers.

A private family funeral mass will be held at St Peter Parish with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
