Lana G. Hummel, 73, Loved Music

Photo of Lana G. Hummel Lana G. Hummel (nee Mihok), 73, of Vermilion, succumbed to a year long illness on Sunday January 10, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain.

Born in Lorain, Ohio on November 25, 1947, she graduated from Admiral King High School in 1965. She was in the marching band, playing the clarinet and saxophone. She continued her education at Lorain County Community College, earning an Associate Degree in circuit board design. She was employed as a circuit board and computer aided design (CAD) specialist at Wink-O-Matic Corp., Avon Lake, and Lorain Products, Reliance Electric, and Marconi Electronics of Lorain.

She continued her love of music in the Vermilion Community Band, and Windjammer Big Band. She also appreciated high performance cars, having owned a 1965 Corvette Sting Ray, a 1968 Pontiac GTO, and a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. She was devoted to and sang in the choir at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting baby clothes and afghans for friends and family.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years Kenneth Hummel, son, Jeremy Reynolds, both of Vermilion, brother Mark Mihok (Kathryn) of Lorain, stepson, Jason Hummel (Melissa), niece, Erin Stachnik (Kevin), nephew, Jack Boutton (Shannon), and their children. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph Mihok in 1996, and Grace Mihok (nee Gove) in 1994, and stepson, Eric Hummel in 2014.

The family will receive friends Thursday January 14, 2021 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Attendees are required to wear facial coverings and observe COVID-19 social distancing guidelines displayed at the funeral chapel entrance and throughout the building.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday January 15, 2021 at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave, Lorain with the Rev Robert J. Glepko, pastor, officiating. (please meet at the church). Prior to mass on Friday, the Nativity Altar & Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 9:30 am in church. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
