Dexter "Andy" Anderson, 86, U.S. Army Veteran

He was born in Burdine, Kentucky on December 29, 1934 and had been a resident of Ohio since the mid 1950’s.

Andy was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Specialist 3 attached to the 53rd Ordnance Company. He was a member of American Legion Post # 30 as well as a former member of VFW Post # 451 both of Lorain.

He had been employed by the Ford Motor Company where he worked in maintenance and clean-up at both the Lorain Assembly and Ohio Truck Plants. Andy retired from the automaker following three decades of service. He had previously worked as a welder for the American Ship Building Company.

A member of the Lorain Moose Lodge, he was an ardent fan of both the Cleveland Browns and Indians and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and travel in his free time. He was also a horse racing enthusiast and the former owner of his own race horse.

Andy is survived by sons Larry and James Anderson, daughter Lois Fay Anderson, adopted daughter Melisa Ruscsak, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Virgie (nee Reed) Anderson, by brothers Glenver, Lester, and Grover Anderson, and by sisters Lois Burke, Joyce Anderson, and Jackie Lake.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Military honors conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria will take place in the funeral chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will immediately follow at Peaks Cemetery in Berlin Township.
