Norma Mae Adkins, 79, Known to Possess a Heart of Gold

Photo of Norma Mae Adkins Norma Mae Adkins (nee Benson), age 79, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on the morning of Thursday May 6, 2021 following a brief illness.

She was born in Elyria on October 18, 1941 had had been a long-time resident of Lorain.

Norma was a 1959 graduate of Avon High School; she had formerly been employed as a secretary at National City Bank in the Terminal Tower.

Dedicated to her family and known to possess a heart of gold, she always made certain that others’ needs were met before her own. She was passionate about Halloween and thoroughly enjoyed decorating her home in accordance with the holiday. Norma was also an accomplished cook and baker. Her sloppy-joe recipe was epic and enjoyed by those close to her, especially during the holidays. Additional interests included social bowling with friends and solving crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her son Michael of Lorain, daughter Pamela K. Barnette (Ron) of Belleville, Michigan, grandson Cory Adkins of Lorain, and brother Neil Benson of Sheffield.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents Milton and Theresa (nee Casper) Benson, maternal grandparents Mathias and Edith (nee Wagner) Casper and paternal grandparents Ed and Ella Mae (nee Waldron) Benson.

Visitation will be Saturday May 15th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel -3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Lorri Bandagski will officiate. All visitors will be required to wear facial coverings and guests are asked to follow the Covid-19 guideline posted at the funeral chapel entrance and throughout the building.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to either the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
