Jesus Mateo, 90, Loved Watching Baseball Games on TV

Photo of Jesus Mateo Jesus "Jesse" Mateo, 90, of Lorain, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 after a battle with cancer.

He was born on September 1, 1930 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1952 to make his home and retired from Conrail Railroad after working there for 30 years.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Maria “Kitty” Mateo, step-daughters: Miriam Liberty, Eledis "Lidy" Torres, sons: Jesus Mateo, Harold Mateo, Edwin Mateo, daughters: Yvette Mateo, and Annette Mateo, brothers: Herman Mateo, Angel Mateo, Osvaldo Mateo, sisters: Ines Mateo, and Eneida Mateo. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who love him very much.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio and Luciana Mateo, son: Luis Mateo, daughter: Evelyn Mateo, brother: Jose Mateo, sisters: Adelaida Mateo, Aurelia Mateo, Emilia Mateo.

Jesse was a very private man. He loved watching his baseball games on TV, and told many stories regarding his many life experiences. Jesse enjoyed gardening for many years as he planted tomatoes, beans, and other vegetables until he couldn’t do it anymore.

His family will receive friends and family on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, from 4 PM to 8 PM. There will be a service on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the funeral home at 10 AM prior to the burial at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
