Donald R. Bailey Sr., 93, Selfless, Patient, Kindhearted, and Generous

He was born in Amherst where he grew up and graduated from Amherst High Class of 1947. He built his wife’s dream home in Carlisle Twp. in 1975, where they raised their family and lived until moving to Elyria in 2019.
Donald worked as an electrician for US Steel, American Ship Building and various construction jobs in the area.
He was very active in the Abundant Life Church and Christian Unity Church. Don was a trustee at Abundant Life Church. He also taught Sunday School, was Sunday school Superintendent. He helped build and remodel several churches in the area.
He was selfless, patient, kindhearted, and generous. He was quick to smile and gave the best hugs. He enjoyed going to flea markets, tinkering with things and was very handy. He was a handyman who helped anyone and everyone.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Janet (nee Markel), daughter, JoAnn (Jerry) Mazzoni of North Ridgeville, sons, Jeff (Cyndi) Bailey of Vermilion, Don Bailey Jr. of Elyria, grandchildren, Rebecca (Kenny) Beavers, Curtis (Kay) Tunnell, Ashley (Josh) Hay, Amy (John Greene) Bailey, Sara (Matt) Pasadyn and Brad Bailey, great-grandchildren, Lucy Pasadyn, Leo Pasadyn, Haylee Beavers, Hayden Beavers, Cole Hay, Ryder Hay and Bronson Hay.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marianne Tunnell in February of 2021, parents, George Bailey and Anna Waters, brothers, Seth and George Bailey, sisters; Ruth Sypes and Don’s twin sister, Donna Goss.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville where services will be held 11 AM Friday. At the request of the family, masks are required. Rev. Jerry Harper will officiate. Services will be live streamed on Bogner Family Funeral Home Facebook page.
Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
