Eugene L. Duckworth Jr., 83, U.S. Navy Veteran
Eugene L. Duckworth Jr, 83, of Lorain, died Saturday October 16, 2021 at North Ridge Health Center in North Ridgeville after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 26, 1938 in Grafton, West Virginia and had resided in Lorain since 1952 moving from Vermilion.
Gene graduated from Lorain High School in 1956 and served in the US Navy from 1956-1958.
He worked as a shift foreman at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake retiring in 1998 after 40 years. Afterward, he drove cars for Jack Matia dealership which he really enjoyed.
Gene was a member of St Peter Parish in Lorain, the Romanian Club, St Lad’s Club and American Legion Post #118 in Amherst. He enjoyed Lake Erie and sailed recreationally out of Vermilion. He was a competitive roller skater and avid snow skier.
He is survived by his children: Scott J. Duckworth (Betsy) of Powell and Tracy Rodgers (Mark A.) of Lorain; grandchildren: Leigh Duckworth, James Duckworth and Gina Rodgers and his brother Eldon Duckworth of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Leah J. Duckworth (nee Rosso) in 2007, parents Eugene L Duckworth Sr and Ann Elizabeth Duckworth (nee Patterson) and brothers Stuart and Walter “Smitty” Duckworth.
The family will receive friends Saturday November 6, 2021 from 11:00 am until the time of memorial services and military honors at 1:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.
