Gary S. Vargo, 78, Former Auto Body Instructor at JVS

Born in Lorain on January 1, 1943, Gary was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend Kent State University. He subsequently received his teaching certificate and embarked on a career as an auto body instructor at the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. He retired in 1998 following a twenty-six year career as an educator there.
Gary was a long-time member of the Beaver Creek Hunt Club as well as both the Lorain County Kennel Club and the Lorain County Afghan Hound Club. He, along with his wife, bred and showed Afghans and also participated in lure-coursing competitions with Greyhounds.
Gary possessed limitless energy and when not involved with buying and tinkering with classic automobiles and motorcycles, he and his wife traveled extensively in their recreational vehicle. Together, they visited and explored forty-nine of our fifty states; he often quipped that once a road to Hawaii was constructed, they would cross that destination off of their travel list as well.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years Margie A. (nee Kerekes) as well as son Anthony (Susan Lucia) and daughter Donna Marie Vargo both of Brighton Township. He also leaves grandchildren Sarah Vargo of Quaker City, Ohio, Brian Pritt of Ashland, and three great grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his father Steve A. Vargo and mother Ella H. Vargo (nee Szanto)
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel; Reverend Jennifer Francis will officiate. Burial will follow in Brighton Township Cemetery.
