Joseph Czarney, Enjoyed Traveling to Warm Climates

Photo of Joseph Czarney Joe attended Nativity BVM grade school in Lorain and was a 1972 graduate of Lorain Catholic High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. Following graduation, he briefly attended Lorain County Community College.

Joe began his working career delivering flowers for his brother’s flower shop, known as Bernie’s Flower and Gifts. He was then employed by St. Joseph Hospital, first as a Receiving Clerk, next as a Storeroom Manager, and subsequently as Supervisor of the Material Management Department. Following the hospital’s merger with Lorain Community Hospital, he continued to work for an additional year for a total of twenty-one years of service. Joe then worked at Lowe’s in Elyria and became the Zone Manager of the Seasonal, Outside Lawn and Garden Department. From there he was employed by Don Mould’s Plantation Garden Center in Amherst until the time of his retirement in 2016.

He formerly attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and was a member of Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442. Joe also played slow pitch softball for the Adams Cafe team for many years and had also served as a bartender for the café.

He possessed a special zest for life and was always quick witted and willing to give one hundred percent to anything he did. He enjoyed travel to warm climates visiting Key West Florida multiple times. He also loved the beach and summer months here in Ohio. Joe loved gardening in which he had the proverbial green thumb to make anything grow. He shared the produce from his garden with family and neighbors as well as canned salsa and spaghetti sauce, peppers, and a variety of other things. He was a talented cook and dancer and always had a Nazdrowie ready. He enjoyed watching all of the Cleveland sports teams, the Ohio State teams, and all sports in general. He took up skiing and running upon an older age because he loved life.

Joe was preceded in death by his father Michael in 1998, mother Helen in 2017, sister-in-law Ann Marie Czarney (nee Katricak) in 2013, and brother-in-law Tom McNair in 2017.
