Juana Pabon Ortiz, 82, Loved Taking Nature Walks

Photo of Juana Pabon Ortiz Our much loved, cherished and admired Juana Pabon Ortiz, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 p.m. at Cleveland Clinic in Avon.

Juana was born on May 24, 1939 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to the late Benigno Pabon and Josepha Pabon. She met Martin in New Jersey during the 1950s, it was love at first sight and subsequently married Aug. 1, 1964 then moved to Lorain. Juana was a loving wife and mother. When her children were older, she began work at the Lorain City School as a custodian for 15 years until her retirement.

Juana was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and Crucillo. She had a constant presence at the church until her health started to subside but still maintained the strong connection to the church.

She is survived by her loving children, Geraldine Barreiro, Carmen Pierse, Miguel Ortiz, Ana Julia Ambuehl, Lidubina Ortiz-Robinson and Margarita Ortiz-Padilla; grandchildren, Elena McDuffus, Sari Barreiro, Elias Barreiro, Elisa Barreiro, Rosita Barreiro, Daniel Barreiro, Marisol Barreiro, Joseph Morales, Maribel Feliciano, Selena Feliciano, Jaylene Pierse, George Pierse Jr., Gabriela Ortiz, Ignacia Ortiz, Elexa Lorey Ambuehl and Anthony Lorenzo Ambuehl, Anthony Baxter, Daniel Baxter, Kern Baxter, Sofia Elena Padilla and Bella Jolí Padilla; great grandchildren, Lucas Miguel Baxter, Ace McDuffus, Nora McDuffus and Amelie Claire Ambuehl; siblings, Marciano Pabon, Carmen Pabon, Lydia Pabon and her uncle Damian Cordero.

Juana was married to her beloved husband and love of her life Martin Ortiz for over 56 years until his death on Wednesday Oct 27, 2021.

Juana was extremely loving, supportive and was a pillar of strength to her husband and family. She loved spending time with nature walking in parks and gardens. Juana would bring that love home and grow multiple flowers and ferns in her yard. The more the better. She had a sharpened sense of humor and storytelling that made her very engaging to everyone she encountered. Juana was the rock in the family.

Visitation and memorial for both Martin and Juana will be on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 4 to 8 PM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4201 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Also, Tuesday, November 9 from 8:30 until 9:30 AM, Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Contributions may be made to the family to offset medical expenses.
