Norbert Ganobsik, 91, Enjoyed Hiking
Norbert Ganobsik, age 91, of Avon Lake, Ohio passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 3rd with his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Louise, at his side.
Norbert grew up in Lorain, Ohio and went on to attend the University of Notre Dame where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Louise, in 1951. Norbert was employed by the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company and earned his MBA at Case Western Reserve University.
A member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Norbert was sent to the Power Systems Engineering Course at General Electric in Schenectady, New York by CEI. In addition, he also served as an adjunct instructor at both Cleveland State University and Lorain County Community College.
Norbert, a devout Catholic, was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Avon Lake and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed many activities including hiking and was proud to have hiked in and out of the Grand Canyon twice during his lifetime. Additional interests included playing cards, golf and reading. He was a member of the American Slovak Club.
He is survived by his wife Louise (nee Dobos) and children Cynthia Ganobsik (Michael Chinni) of Ohio, Keith Ganobsik of Florida, Karen Baumbach (Randall) of South Dakota, Terrie (Stephen), Celeste Southard (Roland) of Ohio, and Dale Ganobsik (Joanie) also of Ohio. In addition, he leaves six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Margaret (nee Stolarik) Ganobsik, sister Loretta Sandrew and brother Kenneth Ganobsik.
Visitation will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church - 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake on Friday November 12th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. (Attendees are requested to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing protocol while at the church.) Reverend Ronald J. Wearsch, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
