Margaret I. Skrepich, 96, Enjoyed Bowling

Photo of Margaret I. Skrepich Margaret I. Skrepich (nee Stanko), 96, of Lorain, died peacefully at her home Tuesday November 23, 2021.

She was born October 31, 1925 in Lorain to George & Anna Stanko (nee Opalenik) and was the youngest of six children.

Margaret graduated from Lorain High School with the 1943 A Class. While in high school, she began working for the Lorain Board of Education and retired as secretary at Hawthorne Junior High School after 30 years of service.

Margaret was an active member of St Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain where she volunteered in the church kitchen and served as treasurer of the Ladies Guild.

As a youth, Margaret took up the sport of bowling and continued to bowl in leagues at Andorka Lanes, Slovak Lanes, and with the Les Girls League at Rebman Recreation well into her 80’s. As a member of the Greek Catholic Union, she and her husband Joe regularly participated in the GCU National Bowling and Golf Tournaments. She enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling, and baking and was especially known for Aunt Marge’s cheesecake and double deckers.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Farnsworth (Gary) of Amherst; granddaughters: Tania Schoewe (Edward) of North Carolina and Sarah Skrepich of Amherst; 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Skrepich (nee Wells) of Amherst. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Joseph Skrepich in 2017, son J. Dale Skrepich in 2006, sisters Anna Demyan, Mary Strukely, and Helen Petrus, brother George Stanko, and infant brother Michael Sztanko who died during the flu pandemic in 1918.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 3:00-7:00pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where the Parastas service will be Sunday at 6:00pm. Panachida services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 9:30am in the funeral chapel followed by the DivineLiturgy at 10:00am at St Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W 40th St. Lorain. The Very Rev Andrew Nagrant, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
