Robert J. McIlwaine, 82, Enjoyed Being Outside

Robert J. McIlwaine, 82, of Elyria Township, died Monday December 6, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born October 20, 1939 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident.
Robert graduated from Clearview High School in 1957. He worked as a produce manager for Fisher-Fazio Supermarkets and as a chemical operator at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake retiring after 35 years.
Robert enjoyed being outside, watching the birds, going to the county fair and watching Cleveland sports teams, Ohio State and the Army-Navy football game. He was a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local #880.
He is survived by his children Robert McIlwaine (Yanira) and Lee Salas; grandchildren: Kevin McIlwaine, Katelyn Calo (Angel), Carolin McIlwaine, Trent Smith, Joseph DeWitt, Christopher DeWitt, Joel Salas, Gillian Salas and Zachary Salas; great grandchildren Cayden & Mila and sister Ella “La La” Engle (Butch). He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Lorrine “Lori” McIlwaine (née Visci) in 2018, daughter Kimberly DeWitt in 2009, parents James & Elizabeth McIlwaine (nee Broadfoot), sisters Maybeth Perrell and Ruth Gross and brother James “Bumps” McIlwaine.
The family will receive friends Friday December 10, 2021 from 11:00 am until the time of closing prayers at 2:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
