Violet Lyons, 87, Enjoyed Sewing, Baking, and Cake Decorating

Photo of Violet Lyons Violet Lyons (nee Hickman), 87, of Lorain, died Tuesday December 21, 2021 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born December 10, 1934 in Ashland, Kentucky and had resided in the Lorain area most of her life.

Violet worked as the church secretary at Christian Life Church in Lorain for over 25 years before retiring.

She and her husband Darrell spent their winters in Ridge Manor, Florida and belonged to the New Hope Assembly of God where they started the food ministry program.

Violet had one of the biggest gardens in her neighborhood and enjoyed sewing, baking, cake decorating and making 3D greeting cards. Violet was always a very friendly and social person who loved her church and being around her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years Darrell Lyons, son Tim Davis of Elyria, daughter-in-law Karen Jones (Jerome) of Vermilion; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her son Rodney Davis in 1996, parents Emzah Clinton Hickman Sr and Cora Hickman (nee Salyers), siblings: Jesse Frisby, Beatrice Grizzel, Virgie Castle, Elva Profitt. Arnold (Lucille) Hickman, James Hickman, Estill (Helen) Hickman, Joel (Lotus) Hickman, Emzah (Corrine) Hickman Jr, Jesse (Sam), Elva (Junior), Beatrice (Leonard), Virgie (Clarence).

The family will receive friends Thursday January 6, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Additional visitation will be held Friday January 7, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Christian Life Church, 3559 W Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev James Justice and the Rev David Raley will preside. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst.
