Anne Yavornitzky, 96, Always Put Family First

Anne was born in Lorain, Ohio and was a 1943-B graduate of Lorain High School. Following graduation, she went to work at the Weitz Company where she sewed overcoats for service members serving during World War II. Later, she was employed as a Production Manager at Bonne Bell, and finally for the Ford Motor Company where she retired in 1987.

Anne purchased her home in Middleburg Heights when she began working at Ford and lived there for forty-nine years. She took meticulous care of her home and yard.

She was known as quite the social butterfly making friends wherever she went. She was a long-time active member of the Middleburgh Heights Senior Center and was a tireless advocate for the Seniors. She and her loving companion, Tommy Coatoam, were excellent ballroom dancers; they never missed a dance at The Center or Aragon Ballroom. Anne almost always won First Place at The Center for the creative Halloween costumes she made herself. She and Tom traveled together and spent time during the winter in Florida.

Anne was a former member of Ss Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Lorain where she was very active in many aspects of church programs and functions.

She loved her family very much and always put them first. She is survived by her niece and primary caregiver Carol Peto (the late Ernie), brother Joe (Margie), and nieces and nephews Michael Yavornitzky, Alan Jankowski (Mary), Carol Peto ( Ernie deceased), Don Jankowski (Pat deceased) John Yavornitzky (Carol), Reverend Father Andrew Yavornitzky (Ruth), Ann Marie Havrilko (Skip), Paul Yavornitzky (Shelley), Caren Quisenberry (Jon), Sue Glowacki, Jean Gerth (Charlie) Mary Ann Schaefer, Patty Super, Dr. Joe (Jackie), David (Nathalie) and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was proud of all of them.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mary (nee Kuczma) Yavornitzky, brothers and sisters Mike (Nathalie), Eve Jankowski Hank), John (Olga), Andy who was lost at sea during World War II, Olga, Willy (Sandra) and Harry (Joan), nephews Russell Yavornitzky and David Jankowski, and life companion Thomas Coatoam.

Anne’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful caregivers that were so good to her during her time at Avon Oaks.

Visitation will be Monday January 10th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Facial coverings will be required and social distancing protocol will be observed. Reverend Father Andrew Yavornitzky will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
