Tim Holp, 72, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Tim was born in Lorain on October 8, 1949; he attended St. Stanislaus Parish School and went on to graduate from Admiral King High School as a member of the Class of 1968.

Following his graduation, Tim enlisted in the United States Air Force; he served as a Sergeant and fulfilled duty assignments as an Administrative Specialist in Germany and the Philippines prior to his discharge; he was the recipient of the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

Upon his separation from military service, he took a position as an Administrative Specialist for the Veterans Administration. Tim worked for the agency for thirty eight years at both the Brecksville and Lorain facilities prior to retirement.

A longtime parishioner of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, he served there as a councilman for many years and also bowled with the church’s Holy Name Society. He was currently attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.

Tim was a member of both Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans (Lorain) as well as Amvets Post # 32 (Elyria). He proudly served as a long-time member of the funeral honor guard for both groups and was an avid participant in local veteran’s affairs.

Always regarded as a blameless and gentle soul, Tim liked polka music and was a great dancer who enjoyed attending polka dances in his younger years. He was also always willing to lend a hand with painting or just peeling potatoes.

A diehard fan of the Cleveland “Indians”, he enjoyed watching the team on television whenever he couldn’t actually be in attendance at one of its home games. He also enjoyed anything that was on an album, compact disk, or his collection of DVD’s which was rumored to have surpassed 2000 discs.

Although he enjoyed a multitude of interests, Tim’s most fulfilling role was that of caregiver to his parents until their respective deaths in 1982 and 2011.

He is survived by his four-foot companions Lucy and Pepper, brother John (Darlene) of Stanwood, Washington, as well as Michael (Jeanette), Jim (Patty), and younger twin brother Thomas all residing in Amherst. Tim also leaves three nephews, three nieces and is great uncle to eight with two additional to arrive shortly.

He was preceded in death by his father John T. Holp in 1982 and mother Stella Holp (nee Koziol) in 2011.

Tim’s family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Mercy Health beginning with rescue services and extending to the critical care staff for making Tim feel comfortable throughout his last week on earth.

Visitation will be Thursday January 6th in the gathering area at St. Joseph Catholic Church – 200 St. Joseph Drive in Amherst from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. (Masks will be required) Reverend Timothy O’Connor, pastor of the parish will serve as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted jointly by Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 and Amvets Post # 32.
