Carmen Milagro Rivera, 73, Had an Affinity for Helping Others

She was born on January 14, 1949 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Carmen graduated in 1967 from Lorain Admiral King High School.
She was a faithful and beloved member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. Carmen had an affinity for helping others through her work, volunteering, and church community. She enjoyed devoting her time to numerous ministries including Cursillo, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Small Church Community, and was a catechist teacher for over 25 years. Camen retired after 29 years from the Walter G. Nord Mental Health Center as a case manager.
Carmen’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She shared her life with her high school sweetheart and husband of 54 years Samuel Rivera, her beloved children Rachel Velez of Lorain, Maritza (Joe) Bratovich of Amherst, Samuel (Paula) Rivera Jr of Lorain, and Evelyn (Bob) Byers of North Olmsted They were just ok! Carmen spoiled, adored and cherished her nine grandchildren Devin, Andria, and Christian Velez; Brianna, Brandon, and Brooke Bratovich; Will and Alyssa Byers; and Carmela Rivera. Step grandchildren Josh Hartle and Melody Kneisel. Carmen is survived by her sisters Dora Aponte and Lucy Ramos of Lorain, Virginia Ramos of Amherst, Minerva Ramos of Carolina, Puerto Rico and her brothers Raul (JoAnn) Ramos and Luis (Sylvia) Ramos of Lorain.
Carmen was preceded in death by her loving parents Fernando and Carmen Ramos, and her dear brother Fernando Ramos Jr.
Anyone who met Carmen encountered Christ in some way. If she picked on you you knew she loved you because her sense of humor and laughter was her way of sharing Jesus’s love. Carmen leaves behind so many loved family members and numerous loved friends and is now in the arms of her God.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 4 to 8 PM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain 44055 and again on Saturday January 29th from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Mass of Christian burial celebrated by, Rev. Father William A.Thaden, pastor. He will be assisted by Deacons Lou Maldonado, Edgar Gonzalez, and John Rivera. Masks are required. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
