She was born in Lorain, Ohio, where she lived most of her life until she moved to Amherst in 2004.

She was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary High School in Lorain. Dee married Sebastian “John” Scrofano on June 25, 1949, and they raised six beautiful daughters. They enjoyed 68 years together until John’s death in 2018.

In the tapestry of her life, Dee spent much time making a pattern. She was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. As a church member, she served as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, served on Parish Council, was a member of the Marion Guild and was named Woman of the Year. She was one of the four Lakeshore Calico Quilters who made quilts annually to be raffled off to fund Religious Scholarships for the Franciscan Order seminary students. She volunteered for many years at St. Joseph Hospital, and then Mercy Hospital, where she acted as a spiritual visitor and wrote monthly articles of Reflection for the volunteer newsletter. Her Reflections were compiled into a book by her daughter for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also worked as a certified Orthopedic Appliance Technician at National Pharmacy. In addition to writing, her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She crocheted afghans for all of her 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, and her parents Steve and Pauline Strong (nee Svet). She is survived by her daughters, Paula (John) Reeger, Sue (Jeff) Gacka, Connee (Mark) Coleman, Christine (Dan) DeNicola, Kaye (Darcy) Teets, and Dina Scrofano. She was immensely proud of her 15 grandchildren and 23, soon to be 24, great-grandchildren.
