Evelyn R. Mendgik, 87, Enjoyed Gardening, Cooking, and Baking

She was born December 1934 in Lorain and had been a resident of Amherst Township since 1958.

Evelyn graduated in the 1953 B Class at Lorain High School and then attended the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for a few years at St Joseph Hospital and then for 25 years at Lorain Community Hospital retiring in 1995.

Evelyn was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lorain where she served on church council and taught Sunday school. She volunteered at the Lorain County Free Clinic and First Presbyterian Church food bank. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking.

She is survived by her children Robert Mendgik and Linda Mendgik; 2 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George “Butch” Mendgik in 2001, parents John & Eva Poliak (nee Curny), and brothers John Poliak and Dan Poliak.

The family will receive friends Tuesday February 22, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00-4:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 23, 2022 at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev Jimmy Madsen will preside. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
