LaVerne M. Weirich, 89, Enjoyed Baking and Playing Cards

Photo of LaVerne M. Weirich LaVerne M. Weirich, (nee Shefski), age 89, passed away at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon during the early morning hours of Tuesday March 1, 2022.

LaVerne was born in Cleveland on May 24, 1932 and was a graduate of Cleveland South High School. She had been a resident of Lorain since 1950.

She had most recently been employed as an assembler at Ford Motor Company’s Lorain Assembly Plant; LaVerne retired from the automaker in 1990 following seventeen years of service. She had been a member of United Auto Workers Local 425 during her employment there.

Previously, she had been employed by Richman Brothers Clothing, the Sherman Dress Shop (Cleveland), and Ted Jacobs Fashion Center; in addition, she had also formerly worked in the accounting department at Meyer Goldberg.

A parishioner of Nativity BVM Catholic Church in Lorain, LaVerne enjoyed baking, playing cards, and casino junkets in her free time.

Survivors include her son Daniel Weirich (Debi) of Berlin Township and daughter Jill Janezic (Jack) of Sheffield Lake. Ashe also leaves step-granddaughter Dina Amador (Adam) and step great-granddaughters Angelia and Yasmin Amador. Additional survivors include her sisters Dorothy Baran residing in Pennsylvania and Loretta Wisniewski of Fremont.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband Arthur D. “Dan” “Red” Weirich in 2013, parents Edward and Mary (nee Jarzynka) Shefski, sister Ruth Sikora, and brothers-in-law Peter Baran and William Wisniewski.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin with closing prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral chapel and will be followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity BVM Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Paschal Petcavage will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
