Ronald L. Crapo, 85, Owner of Ron's Heating and Cooling and L & R Trucking

Photo of Ronald L. Crapo Ronald L. Crapo, age 85, of Sheffield Lake, passed away at Regency Hospital – Cleveland West on the morning of March 24, 2022 following an extended illness.

Ron was born in Cleveland on November 20, 1936. He grew up in Lorain and was a 1954 graduate of Lorain High School. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and fulfilled duty assignments in Cuba prior to his honorable discharge.

He subsequently joined the Lorain Fire Department in 1964 and proudly served the citizenry of Lorain for the next twenty-seven years; he retired from the department in 1991. Ron also was the owner of Ron’s Heating and Cooling in Lorain as well as L & R Trucking in Sheffield Lake.

He was an accomplished handyman who could tackle any project with the highest level of skill; well known for the meticulous manner in which he maintained his home and property, he enjoyed gardening in his free time. He was also the lover of all forms of animals and wildlife holding a special fondness for cats.

In addition, Ron possessed a love for boating. He personally constructed the first boat that he owned and later transitioned to larger watercraft including a vintage Lyman.

Survivors include his wife of forty years Sandy (nee Bryda), daughters Debi Solomon and Kelly Crapo both of Lorain, and son Scott Crapo (Lisa) of Amherst. He also leaves four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brother Cory “Corky” Crapo (Kay) of Amherst and sister Lana Milli (Alex) of Ontario, Ohio.

Ron was preceded in death by his father Henry Crapo and mother Adaline (nee Carey).

Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Deacon John Slatcoff officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
