Darrell Lyons, 87, U.S. Army Veteran

He was born August 22, 1934 in Arthurdale, West Virginia and had resided in Sheffield Township for over 60 years.

Darrell served with the US Army from 1957-1959. He worked at the GM Fisher Body Plant in Elyria. After his retirement, he and his wife Violet spent their winters in Florida where they were members of the Assembly of God in Dade City. They were instrumental in establishing the food ministry at the church.

Darrell loved his home state of West Virginia and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

He is survived by his brothers Donald Lyons (Norma-deceased) and Raymond Lyons (Evelyn); stepsons Tim Davis and Bob Gainok (Becky), step daughter-in-law Karen Jones (Jerome) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn Gainok-Lyons in 1983, second wife Violet Lyons in 2021, parents Ross and Mildred Lyons (nee Sinclair), stepson Rodney Davis, sister Wilma McKinney and brothers Ralph, Robert, Otis and Fred Lyons.

The family will receive friends Monday May 9, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 10, 2022 at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev James Justice will preside. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
