Christine M. Dennis, 91, Known for Her Infectious Laugh

Photo of Christine M. Dennis Christine M. Dennis, (nee Alflen), age 91 of Sheffield Lake, passed away at O’Neill Healthcare of Bay Village on the morning of Tuesday May 31, 2022.

Born in Cleveland, she had been a resident of Sheffield Lake for the past sixty-eight years.

A parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, Chris had been employed as a manager for Dairy Mart for more than two decades prior to her retirement.

Known for her infectious laugh and willingness to always tell a joke, she was a loyal fan of Cleveland sports. In addition, she enjoyed crocheting as well as testing her luck with lottery scratch-off tickets; Chris was also an accomplished baker whose specialties included cheesecakes, poppy seed rolls, and nut rolls.

She is survived by daughters Rosanne Schneider of Jacksonville, Florida, and Donna Fontana (Tom) of Sheffield Lake, and sons John Dennis of West Palm Beach, Florida and Michael Dennis of Sheffield Village. Chris also leaves seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and sisters Ethel Scalzetti of Pompano Beach, Florida and Barbara Nugent of Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 2001, father Herman Alflen, sr., mother Musetta Dennis (nee Taylor), grandson Joey Dennis, and brothers Herman Alflen, Jr., and Walter Alflen.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday in the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Stephen Shields, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are encouraged to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.
