Anna M. Anderson, 92, Accomplished Cook

Photo of Anna M. Anderson Anna M. Anderson (nee Rider), age 92 of Avon Lake, and formerly of Lorain and Sheffield Lake, passed away peacefully at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake on the evening of Friday July 1, 2022.

Anna was born in Marion, Ohio on October 11, 1929 and was a graduate of Marion Harding High School. She had been a resident of Lorain County for the past sixty-five years.

Anna was employed as a payment processor at the May Department Store Company’s data center located in Sheffield Center; she retired from that position in the early 1980’s. Previously, she had worked as a cafeteria monitor for the Sheffield / Sheffield Lake School District.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ and was active with the Women’s Fellowship there.

Anna loved to go out for breakfast and was, herself, and accomplished cook. She was most well known for her rendition of cabbage rolls and was proud to have passed on the recipe to her daughters for the enjoyment of future generations.

In addition, she enjoyed working with ceramics and was skilled in the arts of sewing, quilting, and knitting. She also liked to travel and was quick to list Alaska as her all-time favorite destination.

She leaves daughters Lori Wenzel (Mike) of Lorain and Julie Doehring (Chuck), Kris Toth (Dave), and Davonne Engle (David) all of Sheffield Lake, along with her son Victor Anderson (Kathy) of Lorain.

Additional survivors include eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Wayne “Andy” Anderson in 2020, parents Perry and Anna (nee Jones) Rider, and sisters Ruth Beckel, Edna Griffith, and June Williams.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Calling hours will conclude with personal reflections from attendees along with a prayer by Ms. Karen Engle. Funeral services will be conducted privately for the family Friday morning in the funeral chapel with Reverend Charles Brown, pastor of the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
