Photo of Navia M. McKenzie Navia M. McKenzie (nee DeMarco), age 97, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on the evening of Thursday August 11, 2022 following an extended illness.

Born in Pueblo, Colorado on January 29, 1925, she had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood.

Navia had been employed as a meat clerk for Meyer-Goldberg grocery stores for over a quarter century prior to her retirement.

She was an accomplished cook who specialized in Italian Cuisine; her family and friends always welcomed the arrival of the Christmas season as it meant the creation of yet another batch of her epic homemade ravioli.

When not working in the kitchen, Navia was known for her green thumb; she was continually recognized throughout the neighborhood for her yard always being a pristine showcase of flowers and decorative greenery. Additional interests included league bowling, visiting area bingo sessions, and crocheting.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Ann Anderson (Lowell G. Anderson, Sr.) of Huron, and Sharon Morehart (Jeffrey) of Lorain. Additional survivors include her grandson Lowell G. Anderson, II (Andrea), and great grandchildren Joey Guerra, Maddie Guerra, Sophia Guerra, Dominic Guerra, Alexis Anderson, and Haley Anderson.

Navia was preceded in death by her husband Frank C. McKenzie in 2016, parents Vincenzo and Emelia (nee DiVincenzo) DeMarco, granddaughter Gina M. Guerra, and seven siblings.

Services will be conducted privately in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel. To share your memories and condolences with Navia’s family, please visit www.gluvna.net.
