Joseph D. Gutierrez, 86, Enjoyed Mexican Fiestas and Mexican Music

Photo of Joseph D. Gutierrez Joseph D. Gutierrez, 86, of Amherst, died Sunday August 14, 2022 at The Woods on French Creek in Avon.

He was born December 25, 1935 in Lorain and had resided in Amherst since 1978 moving from South Lorain.

Joseph graduated from Lorain High School in 1954. He worked at US Steel and RTI in Lorain in electrical maintenance retiring in 1998 after 43 years.

He enjoyed traveling to Arizona for Mexican Fiestas, Mexican music and spending time with his grandchildren. For Joseph, it was all about La Familia.

He was a member of St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Rosemary A. Gutierrez, children: Joseph Gutierrez of Chicago, Michele O’Keefe (Terry), Karen Hullman (Mark) and Kevin Gutierrez, all of Amherst; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and sisters: Erlinda Ridenour and Mary Simpson (Jon). He was preceded in death by his parents Viviano & Apolonia Gutierrez (nee Trujillo), brothers Jesus, Ancelmo, Jose and Santiago Gutierrez and sister Lucy Shaw.

The family will receive friends Wednesday August 17, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 18, 2022 at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. The Rev Neal Walters, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
