Richard W. Hennes, Sr., 70, Had a Passion for Fishing

Born in Lorain on February 26, 1952, Rick remained a life-long resident of the city; he attended Lorain High School.
During the summer of his junior year in high school, he entered the apprenticeship program at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works and embarked on a career that spanned more than three decades with the steel producer. At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was serving as a technician in the # 3 Seamless Mill. He was a long-time member of United Steelworker’s Local 1104.
A member of the Coshocton Muskie Club, he displayed a love of the outdoors and was well-known for the passion he possessed for the sport of fishing. Rick enjoyed making his own lures and liked sharing them with family and friends. He also sold them to area bait and tackle shops for resale. Chances are that if you have ever wetted a fishing line along the north coast, it probably had one of his lures at the end of it.
When not fishing, he enjoyed hunting and following all three Cleveland professional sports franchises.
Rick had an infectious laugh and was often described as humorous, charismatic, and a ray of sunshine by all who knew him.
He leaves his wife of fifteen years Mary Jane M.J. (nee Freshwater), son Richard W. Hennes, Jr. of McKinney, Texas, daughter Nicole Hennes-Supers (Greg) of Amherst, step-daughter Marsha Visalden (Prieto) of Moore, South Carolina, and step-son Jeremy Hooker of Portland, Oregon. Additional survivors include three grandchildren, one great grandchild, three step-grandchildren, two great step grandchildren, sisters Barbara McClure of Santa Rosa, Florida, Joan Whitman and Gayle Andrijowych both of Amherst, Judy Aguirre (Tony) of Lorain, and brother Joseph N. Hennes, Jr. (June)) of Avon Lake.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Joseph N. Hennes, Sr., mother Mildred Hennes (nee Gascoigne), and brothers Michael T. Hennes and Robert Spike Hennes.
Please join his family for a celebratory open house on Saturday October 1st from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.
