Marguerite A. Jones, 94, Enjoyed Skiing, Golf, and League Bowling

Photo of Marguerite A.  Jones Marguerite A. “Scotty” Jones (nee Mihal), age 94, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at her home on the afternoon of Wednesday September 21, 2022 following an extended illness.

Born in Lorain on November 12, 1927, she had been a resident of Amherst since 1995.

Scotty was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to work for a number of years as an administrative assistant at American Crucible in Lorain.

A longtime member of the Lakeland Women’s Club and parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church, she had previously served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for the Firelands Council of the Boy Scouts, as well as a volunteer at the former St. Joseph Hospital.

A dedicated mother and grandmother, she performed in the Lorain Follies and enjoyed skiing, golf, and league bowling in her free time. In addition, she was well known for her culinary skills and highly regarded for her family favorite chicken paprikas and cabbage roll recipes.

Scotty leaves daughters Gayle Zanka and Patricia Krieg, son Douglas Sheppard (Marianne), eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil in 1991, son David Sheppard in 1994, and parents Michael and Louise (nee Holland) Mihal.

Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Reverend Daniel O. Divis, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
