Margaret Miller, 75, Known for Her Innate Organizational Skills

Photo of Margaret Miller Margaret Miller, (nee Carter), age 75, of Lorain, passed away at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake during the early morning hours of Wednesday January 25, 2023 following a valiant battle with a variety of ailments linked to dementia.

She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on November 3, 1947 and had resided in Indiana, Michigan, and several other cities in Ohio prior to settling with her family in Lorain. She was a graduate of Admiral King High School.

Margaret had served as the officer manager for Frank Bonner State Farm Insurance from 1980 until health issues forced her to relinquish her duties there in 1991. During her employment, she completed a multitude of courses and received numerous certifications which enabled her to broaden the scope of her duties and increase her value to the agency and its clients. Previously, she had worked in the banking industry serving as a teller at Lorain National Bank, Central Trust Bank, and a host of others during the 1970’s. In addition, she had also formerly taken real estate appraisal photos as the assistant to loan facilitators at several other area lenders.

Margaret was known for her innate organizational skills and made certain that every facet of her home and personal life was in order. She also liked enriching herself by taking classes in such subjects as upholstery, home improvement, and crafting.

A longtime member of the Lorain Senior Center, she enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and counted cross stitch in her free time. Margaret also possessed a green thumb with house plants and took pride in continuing to raise and nurture a spider plant for decades after receiving it from her mother.

She is survived by her sons David C. Miller (Robin) and Charlie Miller (Lisa) and grandchildren Hannah Miller, Seth Miller, Amber Meno, and Taylor Meno. She also leaves brothers Bud, Richard, Paul and Ronald Carter along with sisters Thelma Canter, Polly Smith, Mary Carter, Barbara Weinbroer, and Claudette Melendez.

Margaret was preceded in death by her grandson Gabriel C. Miller, father Leonard N. Carter, mother Nettie Carter (nee Russell), and brothers Bill and Jerry Carter.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 4:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Gerald J. Keller, Pastor Emeritus of St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Berea will officiate. Burial will take place later in Elmwood Cemetery.
