Nancy A. Edwards, 87, Dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother

Photo of Nancy A.  Edwards Nancy A. Edwards, (nee Doyle), age 87, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at the Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, Ohio on the afternoon of Monday March 6th, 2023 following a year-long illness.

Nancy was born in Lorain on May 12, 1935 and remained a life-long resident of the city; she was a graduate of Lorain High School. She had been employed in Central Supply at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center.

A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Nancy was proud of her role as homemaker and regarded her relationship with her grandchildren as one of the most important elements of her life. A long-time parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, she was skilled in the art of needlecraft and enjoyed sewing in her free time. She was also a loyal follower of the Michigan Wolverine football program.

Nancy possessed a fierce sense of independence which helped sustain her through three separate battles with cancer spanning a period of fifty years.

Survivors include her son Richard Edwards (Joyce) of Lorain, and daughters Diane Wysocki (Joseph) of Avon and Susan Sulzer (Keith) of Cleveland. She also leaves grandchildren Keith, Aaron (Bridget), Nick (Maddy), Kayla, Kurt (Paige), Steven, Jordan (Kayla) and Cierah, along with great grandchildren Sloane and Jace. Additional survivors include her brothers James Doyle (Ann) of Stafford, Virginia, Gerald Doyle (Ginny) of Huron, and Leonard Doyle (Laura) of Amherst.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Charles R. “Dick” Edwards in 2005, parents James and Rose (nee Toth) Doyle, and a sister in infancy.

The Edwards Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical and support teams at both the Cleveland Clinic and the Hospice of the Western Reserve for the care they provided to Nancy and would like to also pass on an extra special note of acknowledgement to Lisa for her compassionate efforts.

Visitation will be observed Monday March 13th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of closing prayers at 10:30 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church – 1305 East Erie Avenue with Reverend Edward Smith, Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
