Charles Lawrence Hawes, Sr., 85, A Humble Man Who Loved God with All His Heart

He graduated from Conneaut High School in 1955.
In 1958 he met the love of his life, Dale Gardener. They were married in 1959 and began their life together. They raised five children - Chuck, Lorri, Kim, Dawn, and Robin.
Charles worked for the Wall Street Journal at the time. In 1966 the family moved to Lorain, Ohio. Soon afterward, they decided to start a Pentecostal Holiness Church. Charles was the worship leader, Sunday school teacher and Pastor. He worked full time and pastored the church along with Dale.
Charles also worked at Elyria Foundry and Arrow Aluminum from which he retired. He was active in the River of Life Conference and was appointed Bishop in 2007; he retired as Bishop in 2014.
Charles was regarded as a humble man who loved God with all his heart. He also loved his family. In his free time he enjoyed reading the Bible, farming, watching Cleveland sports teams, biking, yard work, and spending time with his family.
Following the death of his beloved wife in 2007, he married Sharon White. The couple moved to Dunn, North Carolina in 2014 where he remained until he went home to heaven on Friday March 10, 2023.
Charles is survived by his wife Sharon, daughters Lorri (Joe), Kim, Dawn, and Robin (Dave), step-sons Jamey Reagan (Amanda) and Joey Reagan (Dana), grandchildren Nick, Loretta (Juan), Christen (Joshua), Charlene, Faythe, Joey (Kate), Anthony, Andrew, Brad (Isabel), Jerry, Dawn, Cory, Alex (Amanda), and Mandy, step-grandchildren Austin, Grace, Tucker, and Bailey, along with nineteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sister Marjorie Gutierrez, and brothers Jerry and Ronnie Hawes.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Dale in 2007, son Chuck in 2021, mother Edith, granddaughter Brittany, and brothers Elbert & Howard.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Bethel Chapel 4065 Broadway Avenue in Sheffield Township; funeral services will be conducted there Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township
