Joyce M. Dugovich, 90, Proud of Her Slovenian Heritage

She was born July 24, 1932 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.
Joyce graduated from Lorain High School in 1950 and worked at Columbia Gas for a short time. During the 1970’s-1980’s, she worked as a real estate agent for Phyllis Realty.
Joyce was active with the YMCA playing Racquet Ball regularly and participating in tournaments. She was proud of her Slovenian heritage and was a member of the Lorain Slovenian Home, a club her grandfather John Piskur was a charter member of. She served on the Slovenian Home board of directors and ran the Friday fish fry. She was also a member of St Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church and St Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. Joyce served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and on the PTA at Fairhome Elementary School. She was a devoted grandmother.
She is survived by her children: John Dugovich (Christine) of Elyria and Jayne Pogorelc of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren: Matthew Pogorelc (Julie) of Nashville, TN, Deanna Pogorelc of Portland, OR, Ben Pogorelc (Bonnie) of Bloomington, IN, Jennifer Bathurst (Kyle) of South Amherst, David Dugovich of Elyria, Patrick Dugovich (Cydnie Barrientos) of Lakewood and Anna Dugovich (Stephen Grabor) of Marysville, SC; 3 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild on the way, sister Rosemary Cookie Wise of Amherst and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Ernest Dugovich in 2018, infant son David Bryan Dugovich in 1958 and parents John & Mary Sustersic (nee Piskur).
The family will receive friends Thursday April 20, 2023 from 4:00 7:00 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday April 21, 2023 at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev John Jackson, pastor of Mercy Hospice, will preside. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
