Charles E. Vidovich, 86, Veteran of the National Guard

Chuck was born in Lorain on January 30, 1937 and was a graduate of Lorain High School. He had been residing in Cuyahoga Falls since June of 2021.
Following a brief period of employment at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, he joined the United States Postal Service in 1959 and embarked on a career that spanned thirty-three years with the agency. Beginning as a sorter, he transitioned to service as a clerk and quickly became the friendly ambassador behind the window at 9th and Broadway until the time of his retirement in 1992.
He joined the National Guard in 1961 and fulfilled duty assignments as a Sergeant attached to Company B of the 145th Infantry based in Lorain. He was awarded a Sharpshooter’s Badge for his skill with the M-1 rifle.
Chuck was a parishioner of St. Vitus Croatian Catholic Church and was appointed to serve on the Diocesan Reorganization Advisory Committee there. He later became active at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish where he volunteered as an altar server and also sat on the parish council.
During earlier years, he was active, along with his son, in Indian Guides where he was known as Roaming Brave; Chuck’s involvement with the organization led him to be acknowledged nationally as the Chief of Nation in 1976.
Proud of his Croatian heritage, Chuck was a long-time member and trustee of the Lorain Croatian Club.
Earlier in life, he played the accordion and was an occasional member of the Jolly Boys Band. In his leisure time, Chuck enjoyed camping; he was highly skilled in the craft of counted cross-stitch and was proud to have had a number of his projects receive awards at both the county and state levels of competition. In addition, he loved to cook and was well known for his epic chicken paprikas. Chuck loved Christmas and would begin playing Christmas carols on Thanksgiving morning; he would subsequently embark on the mission of decorating his house extensively for the December 25th celebration.
He is survived by his son David and daughter-in-law Robin (nee Nunn), granddaughters Madison Vidovich, ND / DC (fiancé Benjamin Lagard, D.C.) and Courtney Vidovich-Dohring, M.D. (Christian Dohring, M.D.), and sister Fran Kurjan.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy R. Vidovich (nee Nemeth) in 2019.
