Benjamin Gonzalez, 67, Will Be Remembered as a Strong, Courageous, Husband, Father, and Man of God

He was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, where he met his beloved wife, with whom he formed a beautiful family.
Benjamin’s love for family was undeniable, bringing everyone together, especially on New Year’s Eve, when he made his famous sopon, a Puerto Rican-style soup. He had a great work ethic. He did carpentry and auto work.
Benjamin’s passion for preaching took him worldwide as a missionary sharing the gospel. His faith and courage were evident when he was confronted with health challenges. Benjamin was fighting through with perseverance in a way that impacted many lives. He will always be remembered as a strong, courageous husband, father, and, overall, a man of God.
Benjamin was survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria Gonzalez of Lorain; daughters, Elizabeth Gonzalez (Rafael), Damaris Adibe (Ekene), and Maria Grisel Vega (Francisco); sons Benjamin Gonzalez (Jessica), Samuel Gonzalez (Victoria), Daniel Gonzalez (Jazmin), and David Gonzalez (Yashira); grandchildren Luis, Esai, Bella, Liam, Odalys, Jelany, Gaby, Joe, Sammy, Emmanuel, Jahaziel, Danielys, Josue and David Jr. and great-grandchildren Ethan and Alayna.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his mother, Monserate Rodriguez, his sisters, Delia Diaz and Luz Brenes, and granddaughter Nayeli Ramos in 2020.
His family will receive friends at Vine of Hope Church 1310 Colorado Avenue, Lorain, Friday, October 20, 2023, from 5 PM until time of his service at 7 PM.
His funeral will be Saturday, October 21 at 10 AM. His burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
