Photo of Diane L. Woods Diane L. Woods (nee Baker), age 82, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at Mercy New Life Hospice on the morning of Monday October 30, 2023.

She was born in Lorain on November 27, 1940, and remained a life-long resident of the city; Diane was a graduate of Lorain High School.

She began her working career in the housekeeping department at St. Joseph Hospital; soon thereafter, she transitioned into the role of a transporter and continued to serve in that capacity until the hospital’s closing in 1997. She subsequently transferred to Lorain Community Hospital continuing her patient transportation duties there as well as at its successor, Mercy Health Lorain Hospital until the time of her retirement. Following that retirement, Diane continued to serve as a volunteer at the main information desk at the hospital where she graciously assisted and guided countless visitors to the healthcare facility.

She attended the former Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church in Lorain until early adulthood. She was skilled in the art of needlecraft and enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her free time. In addition, she enjoyed attending local bingo sessions and watching television games shows including Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Cash Explosion. Undeniably, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Mark (Mildalia) Woods and daughter Debra Woods both of Lorain. Additional survivors include grandchildren Gregory Woods, Jonathan Thompson (fiancée Liz), and Elisha Woods, great grandchildren Julianna, Katalina, Mykaela, and Xavier, brother Les Baker (Kathy) of Texas and sister Anita Baker of Lorain.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband Herbert in 1992, son Chris in 2014, parents Charles and Margaret (nee Rousch) Baker, and sisters Dixie Fitzpatrick and Norma Pafford.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Alan Jenkins will officiate. Private family burial services will take place Monday in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
