Loving wife to Dawn Ward; beloved daughter of Pedro and Jolan Castillo (nee Hritsko); fiercely loving and supportive sister to Melanie Thomas Castillo and Meredith Castillo; sister in-law to Amanda Thomas-Castillo, Bethany Westphal, Gabrielle and Matt Sorensen; overly proud aunt to Van Thomas-Castillo, Rebecca Sorensen, Andrew Sorensen and Patrick Sorensen; perfect Daughter-in-law to Stacy Westphal; niece to Valentin Castillo, MaryJo Hritsko and Zori Cruzado, and wonderful cousin to many. Melissa was loved by all who came to know her. Melissa grew up in Lorain, graduating from Lorain Catholic High School in 2001.
She went on to receive her Bachelors of Social Work from Youngstown State University in 2008. Melissa worked most recently at Beech Brook for over 10 years. Her love for her work and her clients was evident. She had a strong bond with her coworkers and supervisor
Melissa was kind and caring but also extremely goofy, enjoying her life as it came. She lit up every space she occupied and was able to make anyone feel important and special. Melissa exemplified selflessness and gave without reservation.
Melissa loved her family, friends and coworkers. Spent as much time as she could with the people she loved. Had so much joy being Titi Lizzo to Van and watching him grow up. She spent so many nights looking at pictures of him and watching videos repeatedly. Her kindness and larger than life personality will be missed dearly by so many
Melissa was more than any of us deserved. She was the kindest, most gracious person. She cared for others constantly, even when facing her own battles. She loved fiercely and met everyone with a smile and genuine interest and concern for them. She was the best. Words can't describe the heartbreak we feel now that she is gone.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Moll Pavilion for their dedication and outstanding care.
Her family will receive friends at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Saturday, November 4, 2023, starting at 12:00 pm followed by a celebration of life at 3:00pm.
