Robert B. Brown, 53, Former Lorain Police Sergeant

Photo of Robert B. Brown Robert B. Brown, age 53, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on the afternoon of Monday April 15, 2024.

Bob was born in Lorain on December 15, 1970 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

He attended Boone Elementary School and Hawthorne Junior High prior to graduating from Admiral King High School as a member of the Class of 1989. While enrolled there, Bob was a member of the Power Lifting Club as well as a varsity letterman on the Admiral King football team.

Following graduation, he enrolled in the Applied Police Science program at Lorain County Community College and subsequently obtained his Associate’s Degree. In 1992, he embarked on his career in law enforcement by joining the Vermilion Police Department as a part-time officer during which time he also served as a Lorain County Metro Parks Ranger.

In September of 1993 he joined the Lorain Police Department as a full time patrol officer and became a field training officer after only five years on the department. In 2001 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where his roles included Road Patrol Supervisor, Jail Administrator, Traffic Commissioner, member of the Lorain Police Honor Guard, and more than a decade of service as a Crisis Team Commander and Hostage Negotiator. Following his retirement, he continued to serve as a member of the Lorain Police Department’s Marine Patrol Unit.

He was a longtime member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 3 where he formerly served as Trustee, Secretary, and Vice President. Bob was also extremely active and proud to have been affiliated with Operation Open Heart for more than two decades and served as its President from 2014 to 2021.

He was an avid boating enthusiast and twice served as the Commodore of the Beaver Park Yacht Club. During his leisure time he was always on the quest for good food and enjoyed dining out. In addition, he was a loyal follower of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, and the Ohio State University athletics. Bob enjoyed fishing and was a fan of television and devotee of police shows as well as animated programs including South Park and the Simpsons. Undeniably, his most favorite thing in life was spending time and being involved in the lives of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Millissa (nee Canter), along with daughter Ciera Wagner (fiancée James Green) of Lorain, and sons Ryan Foor of Lorain and Lt. Brandon Foor (fiancée Lt. Jennifer Pry) serving with the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia. He also leaves grandchildren Julianna Spataro, Kayla Lee, Landon Foor, Kaity Lee, Gianna Foor, and Brody Foor, sisters Debbie Gresh (John) of South Amherst, and Cindy Laeng (Jeff) of North Olmsted, mother-in-law Peggy Jackson (nee Hall) of Lorain and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father William M. Brown in 1979, mother Mary Ann Brown (nee Tomko) in 2021, brother William D. Brown in 2003, and fathers-in-law Richard Canter and Larry Jackson.
