Ian D. Tremaine, 88, Enjoyed Golfing and Bowling

Photo of Ian D. Tremaine Ian D. “Dale” Tremaine, age 88, of Lorain, passed away at his residence on the eveing of Thursday June 20, 2024 following a period of declining health.

He was born in Lorain and attended Lorain High School prior to enlisting in the United States Navy in 1952. He fulfilled duty assignments as a Boiler’s Mate aboard the Sumner-class destroyer USS Lowry (DD-770) during the Korean War. Dale was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Korean Service Medal. He was a life member of both VFW Post # 451 and Amvets Post # 47 in Lorain. He subsequently joined the Lorain City Fire Department where the majority of his duty tours were completed out of the central fire station as both a firefighter and emergency medical technician. An affiliate of the International Association of Firefighters Local 267, some of his off duty time from 1970 to 1974 was supplemented working as a truck driver for City Transfer Service.

Following his retirement from fire service, Dale joined the Westlake City School System where he worked in cafeteria services for a number of years. He was a member and trustee of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Amherst. He was also a member of the Polish-American Citizen’s Club as well as the American Slovak Club in Lorain.

In his free time he enjoyed golf as well as bowling in leagues hosted by the Slovak Lanes and Rebman’s Recreation.

Dale is survived by his son Brian Tremaine (LaTasha Logsdon) and daughter Laura Bevaque both of Lorain, He also leaves grandchildren Cierra, Ian, Madisyn, and Angela, great grandchildren Christian and Aryanna, and brother Alan Tremaine residing in Panama City, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara A. Tremaine (nee Granus) in 2004, by his parents Charles and Laurabelle (nee Horton) Tremaine, by sisters Charlotte, Marjorie, and Violet, and brothers Charles Jr.. and David Tremaine.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Community Congregational United Church of Christ (379 South Main Street - Amherst) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday July 12, 2024. A luncheon following the memorial will be observed in the church's fellowship hall. Dale will be interred privately during committal rites at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
