Joan J. Bober, 87, Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on June 24, 1937 to the late Harry and Stella (Okupski) Makowski. Joan grew up in South Beaver and graduated from Beaver Falls High School. In September of 1955, she married John Bober and devoted her life to being a wife and loving mother. Proud of her Polish heritage, she was a member of the Chewton Polish White Eagles.

Joan moved to Lorain, Ohio in 1978. She was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield Village and was employed at Margie’s Hallmark Store. Her interests included cooking, holiday decorating, flowers, crafts, watching the Cleveland Guardians, Cavaliers, Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR. Overall, most important to her was spending time with family and dear friends.

She will be deeply cherished and greatly missed by children; Patricia Clark, Thomas (Janice) Bober, Cynthia (Gregory) Onlayao, Teresa (Mike) Butler, Brenda (Tim) Crnko, and daughter-in-law Wendy Bober. Treasured by twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, three great-step grandchildren, and brother James (Brenda) Makowski.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband John in 2004, son John in 2010, son-in-law Kenneth in 2019, great-grandson Chance in 2020, and sisters Ruthann and Mary Agnes Makowski both in infancy.

Friends & family will be received on Sunday, July 21st from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Monday with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Teresa of Avila Parish - 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village. Reverend Edward Smith, Pastor of the parish will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at Resthaven Memory Gardens - 3700 Center Road in Avon.
