Raymond A. Grunau, 78, Enjoyed Singing
Raymond A. Grunau, 78, of Elyria, died Tuesday December 31, 2024 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve.
He was born March 20, 1946 in Cleveland to Oliver & Alma Grunau (nee Braun). He has lived in Elyria since 2008 and grew up in Lorain where he lived most of his life.
Ray graduated from Admiral King High School in 1964 and attended Lorain County Community College where he earned an Associate’s Degree. He sang in school choirs, musical productions, and church choirs throughout his lifetime.
Ray held a variety of jobs throughout his life working in banking, as a self-employed freight expeditor, an EMT and school bus driver. He was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Elyria.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years: Eileen C. Grunau (nee Gochnour); sons: James G. Steigerwald and Frank C. Steigerwald (Dawn), all of Lorain; grandchildren: Christopher Steigerwald (Ashley), Alyssa Rader (Justin) and Ian M. Steigerwald; great grandchildren: Bentley, Lillian & Tatum and 5 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carolyn Drane in January 2024.
The family will receive friends Friday January 3, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Cremation will follow.
