Photo of Martin H. Lucey Martin H. Lucey, age 77, passed away at his Sheffield Lake residence on Saturday January 11, 2025. He was born in Lorain to Harold and Ruth (nee Schrenkel) Lucey on May 16, 1947 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain prior to relocating to Sheffield Lake in 1993.

Marty graduated from Admiral King High School and went on to attend Lorain County Community College.

For thirty-five years he served as the Traffic Manager for Reliance Electric / Lorain Products Corporation in both the United States and Mexico. He received a certification in logistics from the University of Wisconsin and became Corporate Logistics Manager for the Orius Corporation’s Telecommunications Division in Chicago, Illinois; he subsequently transitioned to the role of Corporate Manager of Warehousing and Off-Site Installations across the United States and Mexico for Orius.

Following a brief retirement, Marty joined the Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities where he served as an adult aide. Although originally only supposed to have been a temporary position, his service lasted for a period of thirteen years with the agency.

Marty was an avid fan of historic Route 66. He completed the 2500 mile journey more than forty times throughout his lifetime visiting the majority of the mom-and-pop cafes, motels, and trading posts situated along the way. Upon each return, he would utter the familiar phrase "just one more time". He also admired Native American culture and visited numerous reservations throughout his travels.

Considering himself to be an amateur rock hound, he collected numerous samples throughout his journeys which were ultimately integrated into his home landscape scheme. Among the more interesting specimens on display was a sample of Desert Rose which had been presented to him as a gift by the Mexican Government’s Department of Transportation for the work he had accomplished in that country.

When not engaged in any of his other hobbies, Marty enjoyed testing his luck in Las Vegas where he considered Harrah’s his home on the strip.

Survivors include his daughter Beth Mehal and son David Lucey (Tammy) along with grandchildren Madison, Brenden, Taylor, Tyler, and Alyssa. He also leaves his friend Jennifer Koroski.

In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by his wife Nancy L. Lucey (nee Mahiolic) in 2003 and son-in-law Mark Mehal in 2008.

Visitation and funeral services will take place privately for the family in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Contributions in Mr. Lucey’s memory are encouraged to the Lorain County Dog Kennel – 301 Hadaway Street, Elyria, OH 44035.
