Karen Rodriguez, 74, A Woman of Deep Faith

Photo of Karen Rodriguez On the morning of January 23, 2025, the Lord called Karen Rodriguez home following unforeseen surgical complications. She was 74.

Karen is survived by her loving husband Vince, son Donald, sister Andrea (husband Roger/son Joseph), many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew & Mary Chonko (nee Banich) and brother Joseph Chonko.

Karen was a woman of deep faith who was a devout member of St Mary Catholic Church in Lorain. Her faith was a guiding light in her life. Her spirit of generosity and kindness touched everyone she met and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

With grace and beauty, Karen lived with MS for over 40 years. Where others would have been crushed, Karen was an example and shining light of positivity. Faced with increasing challenges and difficulties brought on by MS, she found a way to turn them into something positive. “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” is truly the metaphor that defines her unrelenting positive attitude in the face of adversity.

Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored crafts, decorating her home with creative and enjoyable pieces, some that we still hang on the holidays. She relished the role of mother to Donald and wife to Vince. With a warm smile, she cherished spending time with family and friends. A vibrant sole, she embraced each moment with enthusiasm and joy, enjoying company with wonderful conversation, delighting in the laughter and time spent with others.

Karen had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand. She truly knew that it was more of a blessing to give than receive. Her generosity knew no bounds. It brought her joy to share of herself and what she had with those in need. She will be remembered for her selflessness and her nurturing nature. She lives forever in our hearts. Her candle may be dimmed but within us it burns bright and forever.

The family will receive friends Friday January 31, 2025 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am in the church with the Rev. Frank P Kosem, retired pastor of St Jude Parish, presiding.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.
